Creative Living: Interview with Dallas Curow

Creative Living: Interview with Dallas Curow

I met Dallas at a Creative Mornings event shortly after she had moved to Edmonton. Right away it was clear that we had lots to talk about and I've really enjoyed getting to know her as she settles into our city. She's very generous with her wisdom about creativity, social media, and running a small business, and, of course, she takes beautiful photographs. I can't wait for our next tea date!

Awakening the senses: Seeing with fresh eyes

Awakening the senses: Seeing with fresh eyes

In some ways, sight is the easiest sense to work on, since it's the one we use the most anyway. According to Psychology Today, more than half the body's sense receptors are in the eyes. But how much of your surroundings do you really see on a daily basis? If you follow the same routine every day, you probably have long since stopped noticing the buildings you pass, or the way the sky looks - unless something is drastically different. What if you could train yourself to look at the same old things with fresh eyes, seeing something new every day?

Stop Tolerating Winter and Start Loving It

Stop Tolerating Winter and Start Loving It

I have relatives that live in California and every time I talk to them they try to convince me to come live there. The main draw, in their eyes, is the perpetually mild weather. Who wouldn't want to live in a place that's sunny with an average of 20°C all year long? I wouldn't. I live in a city that spends almost half the year under snow. And I love it.

Learning DSLR Photography: Summer Fun

My latest photography adventure happened on Canada Day. I don't think I can remember a July 1st that wasn't sunny and warm and this year didn't disappoint. We spent the day in a park surrounded by good friends and later went home to barbecue. We set up a slackline, hung a swing in a tree, played frisbee and bocce ball, coloured, played music (my friends did while I took pictures), and drank boozy blueberry lemonade. We couldn't have asked for a better July day.
